I was a middle school English teacher in Bend, Oregon for my first 2 years of teaching. While there, I created a club that combined Slam Poetry with Improvisational acting for 3rd through 6th graders. After moving back to Indiana, I have taught writing to 4th and 5th graders, creating my own standards based curriculum. I formed a class environment cultivating mutual respect, discipline, and promoted a growth mindset not just in their academic life but their personal life as well.
