My name is Chelsea Cylinder. I hold a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors. I have been teaching since I was thirteen years old and have taught kids ages 4-13. Recently, I started teaching online, so I have experience connecting with students virtually as well. I have tutored in both Spanish and Math and greatly enjoy both of those subjects. I studied Spanish for 17 years and earned a minor from Penn in Spanish/Hispanic Studies. In addition, I received a silver medal for my score on the National Spanish Exam. I have an excellent grasp on Spanish grammar and strong comprehension skills. I have experience tutoring elementary and high school levels of Spanish and am comfortable teaching Spanish to students ranging from pre-kindergarten all the way through early collegiate level. Spanish is a subject that I am very passionate about. My primary Spanish teacher in high school was one of the most influential teachers I have ever had. She taught me to love the language and made me want to keep studying it all through college. Now, I would love to teach it to other students and help them understand and appreciate the language as well. I have also always liked math. When I was little, I asked my mom to create math problems for me to solve just for fun. In high school, I decided to learn Algebra II one summer entirely on my own, so that I could skip a level and join the grade above me. I remained one year ahead of my class for the remainder of my education. I have tutored in Algebra II and have frequently helped younger members of my family with their math homework. I would be comfortable teaching very early levels of math up through high school Algebra II. Outside of academics, I also teach theatre. I am an actress, singer, and producer, and have performed in New York and regionally around the Philadelphia area. I teach theatre of all types for the Walnut Street Theatre, Theatre Horizon (recipient of the Barrymore Awards’ 2019 Victory Award For Outstanding Theatre Education Program), Child Drama Workshops, and Music Theatre Philly.
