Michael’s Tutor Bio
Positive, funny, and friendly, Michael enjoys sharing his passion for learning with his students. He earned his BA in Cognitive Science with an emphasis in Psychology from Occidental College, where he graduated cum laude and received the Trustee scholarship all four years. Michael has been tutoring since 2016, working with kids as young as pre-k learning foundational reading and math skills, as well as preparing students for the SAT, ACT, and ISEE. He absolutely enjoys teaching and is in the process of applying to Master of Science programs in Applied Behavioral Analysis to work as an ABA therapist.
Michael has been tutoring since Junior High, where he helped elementary school students learn reading, writing, and math skills. In high school, he tutored students in Geometry and Algebra. Then, after graduating from college, Michael helped students prepare for the SAT, ACT, and ISEE exams to enter prestigious high schools and colleges.
“I focus on a student’s own sense of confidence and ability,” Michael says. “The pressures of being accepted to higher education can be overwhelming for students. I try my best to meet students where they are currently, in order to increase not only their test scores, but also their self-value.”
In high school, Michael participated in theater and improv comedy, which he continues to enjoy to this day. Currently, he likes producing music, watching the NHL (go Anaheim Ducks!), and the NY Times KenKen puzzle. Michael uses his love of puzzle-solving to help students find the most effective test-taking strategies. He and his wife enjoy taking their 10-year-old dog named Scooby for walks at the dog park.
