My name is Ramisha Anwar, and I am a current student (English major and Urban Studies minor) at Queens College (CUNY) graduating in May 2019 I am currently a graduate student at CUNY Queens College and planning to finish my MA Degree in English by May 2021. One of the many reasons as to why I want to obtain an MA degree in English is to have the ability to teach English literature to young children. For me, teaching has always been a natural aspect in my life, I feel the most accomplished when I am able to explain literature to someone else in a different way. English has not always been my strongest area of the subject, in both elementary school and middle school I had difficulties in comprehending English literature and writing in a coherent manner. However, as I began high school, I wanted to overcome my struggles in English literature and strive to understand the difficulties I had within the subject. With practice, tutoring, and long hours of reading different forms of texts, English had become My new favorite subject. The different types of novels that I had read throughout my high school journey, had struck my interest in literature and helped me understand perspective through a different lens. Although I have always been good in math, science, and history, there was something different about English literature. Unlike math, science, and history, English literature has no “right answer” there are infinite answers and literature can be interpreted in so many different ways.
