Rev. Dr. Tiggs E. Washington was born in Buffalo, New York. His parents are Moody and Maryetta Pugh. Rev. Washington is the youngest child out of five. He was educated in the Buffalo Public School System. In 2012, Rev. Washington earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business from Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee—with the academic distinction of Summa Cum Laude. In May 2015, Rev. Washington graduated with his Masters of Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL. Rev. Washington has completed his coursework and finished his Ministry Final Project, which was entitled, Evaluating the Expansion of Evangelism in the C.M.E. Church through Social Media. On June 28, 2019, Rev. Washington graduated with his Doctor of Ministry degree at South University. In addition, Rev. Washington released his first publication entitled, Sermons for the Journey: A Collection of Sermons for the Liturgical Year in May 2018. Rev. Washington is also working on his second publication entitled, Not Scared to be Different, scheduled to be released in the first quarter of 2020.
Rev. Washington holds membership in numerous organization including: life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., NAACP, Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference and others. Rev. Washington has received numerous awards which include: Alpha Phi Alpha Achievement Award, Fund for Theological Education Undergraduate Fellowship, Backpack to Briefcase Business Award, the Styberg Preaching Award just to name a few. Rev. Washington serves on the Committee on Ministerial Examination for the New York-Washington Annual Conference. He serves as the Vice President for the Methodist Ministers Alliance Inc.
Rev. Washington considers Calvary Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church in Buffalo, NY his “home” church. He served as associate minister at New Hope CME Church in Evanston, IL. In addition, Rev. Washington served as the Youth Minister at Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church in Waukegan, IL. Rev. Washington accepted his call to preach in January 2009 at Mother Liberty CME Church in Jackson, TN at the early age of 18. He was licensed to preach in August of 2009. He was ordained Traveling Deacon in 2011 by the late Bishop Thomas Hoyt Jr., and ordained Traveling Elder by Bishop James B. Walker in August 2015. His favorite scripture is Proverbs 16:9, which says “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps. But most importantly Rev. Tiggs Washington is saved, and he is a strong believer in Jesus Christ.
In August of 2015, Bishop James B. Walker appointed Rev. Washington as the Pastor of Williams Temple C.M.E. Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In addition to pastoring, Rev. Washington is also a full-time elementary school teacher in New Castle, Delaware.
Rev. Washington is the father of one beautiful daughter, Trinity Marie Washington.
