Hi, I'm Tasneem! I recently graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Biology and a certificate in Environmental Sustainability. When I was in college, I tutored Westlake High school students in Biology and Chemistry. I started with just 2 students but the students improved through my tutoring so much that their parents referred me to other parents who were looking for tutors. I have also tutored college students through a tutoring agency called House of Tutors. I tutored students in Introductory Biology, General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. My favorite experience tutoring was with a high school student who, when I started tutoring her, did not like biology at all but by the end of the semester had grown an appreciation for biology. She started asking me questions that went beyond the scope of the class which showed me she was interested in the topic. While I do enjoy seeing my students improve at a subject, when I am able to get a student to develop an interest in a subject, that is when I feel I have made the biggest difference. Also, some students whom I tutored started with very little confidence in themselves but helping them understand a concept that they thought was too complicated to learn, often instilled a stronger sense of confidence in them. In college, I had to take many difficult upper-division science classes such as genetics, organic chemistry, microbiology, and ecology. I honestly struggled with many of these classes, however, I was very passionate and interested in science so I had the motivation to spend hours learning the material. Since, I myself struggled with these classes I am able to identify what students are struggling with and break down complex topics into smaller more understandable parts.
